The Kansas Paralegal Association is hosting a CLE webinar through Zoom on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 12pm to 1pm over the Shawnee County Juvenile Criminal Division.

TOPIC OVERVIEW: Our guest speaker, Jessica Heinen with the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office, will provide attendees an overview of the juvenile criminal division.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  An overview of the juvenile justice code. The program will include an overview of the primary goals of the juvenile justice code, who a juvenile offender is, and how a juvenile offender case proceeds in the court system. Additionally, she will cover the differences between the adult criminal system and the juvenile justice system including the filing of a criminal case, dispositional outcomes, and rehabilitation.

SPEAKER BIO:  Jessica Heinen is a Deputy District Attorney at the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office. She has practiced in municipal court as well as state court. Her focus areas have been misdemeanors, adult felonies, and now juvenile law. She is currently the Deputy District Attorney over the Juvenile Division at the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office and oversees all of the juvenile offender cases. She is a member of the Kansas District Attorney’s Association, the Topeka Bar Association, and the Kansas Bar Association.
